Exercise After
Pregnancy - The Secret To Losing Weight After
Pregnancy
For most women, exercise doesn’t play a part in their everyday
lives. To get back in to shape after having children,
exercise after pregnancy needs to
be included in some way.
Many women believe that the only form of exercise that works
for losing weight after pregnancy is either going to the gym,
fitness classes or some other form of high impact or
competitive sport.
A better description, especially where post pregnant women are
concerned would be to use the term activity. Activity doesn’t sound as
daunting.
Activity could include many things from cleaning, gardening and
general housework to walking, swimming or dancing. The
important thing is to take it steady, be consistent and find
something that is enjoyable and fits in to everyday
life.
The perfect activity for new mums is walking
with your baby in a pram, because you can work at your own
pace, you have the support of the pram and you and your
baby will get plenty of fresh air.
To begin with choose a gentle route that takes you anywhere
between 10 – 20 minutes and complete this twice at different
times throughout the day. Gradually increase the distance or
the speed you walk at to keep it slightly challenging. Avoid
too many hills at first as this will feel too difficult, but
add some in as time goes by.
You should aim to walk for 20 – 60 minutes at least 5 days a
week.
The stomach muscles also need strengthening, but they are in a
very delicate state and there are some specific movements that
must be done, called pelvic tilting
exercises.
Don’t do sit ups, they could leave you seeing a pot belly every
time you look at your feet.
There is a test called the Rec check which will show you when
you can start doing more advanced movements. You can find out
how to do this in ‘The Baby Belly Fat Loss
Plan’.
